So end of April I hiked up Mount Snowdon in North Wales for charity and let me tell you it was a lifetime event.
We left the night before by coach and arrived in Wales around 6/7 am in the morning. We then got changed into our waterproofs in the restrooms and were given some snacks, a water bottle, torches and poles for the hike by our event organisers.
What you need for the hike:
- Change of clothes plus a second pair of shoes and socks (which I left in the coach)
- Lucozade drink
- Waterproof jacket with a hood
- Waterproof trousers
- Mint cake
- Hiking boots
The hike itself wasn’t too bad in the beginning and the views were stunning until we took a wrong turn and left the normal path ending up on a way that was really steep and rough in places. Also it was raining for most of the time during our hike which made certain areas really slippy too. Nevertheless all the effort was worth it and we made it to the top. Unfortunately it was a really cold windy day and also a bit foggy which made it difficult to see everything from the Summit but the views you could get were still breathtaking and you really felt like on top of the world. Overall it took us about 3/4 hours to go up Mount Snowdon and probably approximately 2 hours to come back down. There is a train running which you can take to go down again but apparently it was not in service the day we were there. Halfway down there was a little cosy warm cafe where you could order hot rinks and food and warm up and rest a little.
I am really glad I had the opportunity to climb Mount Snowdon and more importantly to do it for a good cause! I would probably recommend some cardiovascular exercises before you go as it can be quite tiring and exhausting if you are not used to this amount of physical exercise.
So yeah I would definitely recommend it , it is an amazing experience which can only make you proud especially if you reach the top!!
